Holiday Budgeting...

I have a goal for the month of December. I went over our budget for the month's of October and November and it was outrageous! I was floored by how much we spent on un-necessary things and I vowed, "no more".

I will only be spending money on minimal items. We will be eating all our meals from our food storage. We will see how creative we can be. We have plenty that should be able to sustain us. We will replenish slowly!

Not only will it rotate our storage, it will teach us discipline, and creativity!

Challenge: Try eating from your storage for at least a week! Let me know what you come up with! I will let you know what recipes I come up with!

Food Storage Inventory Challenge

I have decided to do a weekly food storage challenge! I have been a little off of my game with my food storage lately but here is what I scored last week! Most of you know, I have a slight obsession with coupons. Last week my local grocery store had a sale on reach dental floss for $1.00 each. I had coupons for 3 for $3.00, $.50 off 1, and 1 for $1.00. I had a total of 26 coupons varying in all discounts. The store was all out of the dental floss so I decided to get a rain check. I have never used rain checks before but ended up getting 26 dental flosses for $3.50 after tax! Needless to say, Scott and I will not be needing dental floss for a very long time!

Anyway that is my very long plug for coupons! You can do so much!!!

Challenge:

Sit down this week. Start making your inventory of what you and your family eat on a regular basis. Include things like special sauces or condiments. On my list we keep Sweet Chili Sauce, and those asian packets that are such a family hit! We love them!! I am trying to attach my list to this post, but if it doesn't work and you are interested, let me know. Customize it to your families interest and start plugging away! It is so satisfying!! I sleep better that is for sure!

Try each week you grocery shop, or bi-weekly pending on your schedule and pick up an extra 4-5 of these items or pending on how many you have calculated that you will need for the year. If you start slowly, it is always better to buy in bulk!!!

Food Storage Frenzy...Pears!

I am really into canning as of late. Last night, my pears were about to go bad so I decided I better buckle down and get going. Luckily I have a great helper who is willing to do all my peeling for me...(ugh, I hate peeling!) Thank you Scott! I ended up dicing all of my pears and getting 11 pints and 2 quart jars of pears! Now I can use them for fruit salads. Scott told me the other day he is happy to support my food storage madness because he knows it keeps me sane and I don't have as much anxiety. I am working to fully re-organize my food storage tonight...pictures to come soon. I promise you will be impressed. My posts will also probably have a lack of pictures as of late because we are out a camera. We lost our charger and battery and my sister happened to need a new camera and she had the battery and charger out in Ecuador. I am such a nice sister! We are looking for a new one...maybe for christmas. I know posting sans pictures is sort of a faux pas in the blogging world, but you will just have to live with me for now!!

Scott and I played cards last night for house chores...I lost :(
