A little kitchen organization trick..

We have quite the lack of space in our kitchen. Wether it be drawers, oddly shaped cupboards, or pantry we just don't have enough space.

I try to be a very organized person. A small kitchen and no organization don't sit well and make my brain go a little crazy.

There are five things in my kitchen that I couldn't do without. They provide great organization and don't take up any of the room I might have needed for something else.

1. Mason Jars= GREAT STORAGE! We bought a box of mason jars and put misc. things in them to store on the top of the fridge. It has been an excellent way to keep everything in sight (making sure it gets used and that we don't buy multiples of things we don't need) but out of the way. We store things like granola, cous cous, rice, hot cocoa, Cream of Wheat, Corn meal... The list goes on but you get the idea.(FYI. We buy EVERYTHING in bulk, if you don't I highly recommend it. That is why we need jars in the first place. We haven't found anything that isn't cheaper purchased this way) The jars aren't too tall that they block the cupboards above the fridge from opening either! For those who have a fancy label maker (Annie, I know you do!:)) you can label the jars with that. My label maker was packed away when we moved in so I just used a sharpie and wrote the contents on the lid and the jar.

2. Wall Mount Storage- Is a beautiful thing. Anyone that REALLY knows us, knows we LOVE Ikea! It is our favorite store without a doubt. At Ikea they sell bars that you can mount to your wall and then cups that hang from the bar. We have two bars in our kitchen. One is above our sink and holds soaps and lotion and sponges. We also typically have a towel hanging on it. Another is just above the general counter space and holds our often used kitchen gadgets like the can opener, cheese slicer, kitchen scissors and veggie peeler.

3. Shoe box size storage containers- We have limited pantry space, as I mentioned before, so we purchased containers to store dry goods, untensils and baking supplies. I thought I got a great deal on some used ones at Goodwill for a 1.00 each and then Annie found them at Fred Meyer, brand new of course, for the same price. I finally found them at home depot for .88 though! I love a deal! Since we buy things in bulk our pantry can get rather over run with bags. This is a great way to prevent that. We put all out beans in one, pasta in one, you get the idea.

4. What recipe can't you find on-line these days? Take a 1 in. binder and put your favorite and most frequently used recipes in your RECIPE BINDER and get rid of all those cookbooks that take up a whole cupboard by themself. I know Sheena, has one. We have just started compiling ours, now we just need to get rid of the cook books.

5. Bag storage. I am pretty sure most of us have one already but for those of you who don't, GO GET ONE! Ours is mounted on the wall in the kitchen, Annie's is in the garage. Wherever is best and most convenient for you. Some even have sticky backing so you can stick it to the inside of a cupboard, ours was under the sink for a while. It is a great place to put all those plastic grocery bags.

Hope this helps in your quest for organization, big kitchen or little.
